Mark Higgins is President of Genesis Investments, an affiliate of Genesis Real Estate Advisers. He is responsible for all investment activity at both firms, including acquisition, disposition and finance. He is also responsible for creating and implementing investment strategies on behalf of clients. Mr. Higgins brings more than 30 years of institutional investment management and financial experience, in all major property types, to the firm.

Prior to founding Genesis Investments with Steve Tart in 2015, Mr. Higgins was President of Cornerstone, now Barings, Real Estate Advisers, one of the largest institutional real estate advisory firms in the United States. While at Cornerstone, Mr. Higgins oversaw all debt and equity investments in North America for a commercial property portfolio valued in excess of $30 billion. He was responsible for supervising all activities in connection with a diversified portfolio of commercial properties including equity acquisitions, asset management, and disposition; as well as debt vehicles such as mortgages, CMBS and alternative investments. Mr. Higgins was also the Chair of Cornerstone's Real Estate Investment Committee and played a key role in creating and implementing investment strategies on behalf of Cornerstone clients.

Mr. Higgins joined Cornerstone Real Estate Advisers, a wholly-owned subsidiary of MassMutual Financial Group, in 1996 as the firm entered the third-party investment management business and helped Cornerstone grow from $1 billion to more than $35 billion of assets under management, worldwide, when he retired in 2012. Prior to joining Cornerstone, Mr. Higgins was a Principal with HPI Realty Partners, a San Francisco-based management and consulting firm that he co-founded in 1991. Prior to forming HPI, Mr. Higgins was Senior Vice President of Piedmont Realty Advisors, a private real estate investment firm that merged with The RREEF Funds in 1990. Mr. Higgins also served as Vice President for Aetna Realty Investors where he was responsible for originating acquisitions, joint ventures and mortgages, including structuring the financing for Aetna’s Apartment Development Funds.

Mr. Higgins earned a BS degree in Finance, cum laude, from the University of Denver and his MBA, with honors, from the J.L. Kellogg School of Management at Northwestern University. He has served as a Board Member of the National Multi Housing Council and was a member of the Urban Land Institute, the National Association of Real Estate Investment Managers and the Pension Real Estate Association. He is currently a member of the International Council of Shopping Centers and is a Licensed Real Estate Broker.
